You better believe I will be waiting next to my mailbox tomorrow. Kim Diehl’s newest book, Simple Friendships is coming, and this time she is co-authoring it with Jo Morton. It has many patterns for block exchanges, one of my favorite parts of quilting and my quilting friends. Here’s the cover of the new book:
So, to celebrate this, I put together a little ditty from The Simple What Not’s collections, called Sunshine and Shadows. I got this kit from my good friend Peggy last summer. It is a miniature (14″ square), (I love Miniatures!) It was so much fun to put together, 36 little bitty 2″ blocks, with 36 hand-appliqued ”leaves”.
When I went to piece the binding, I got my entire collection of Kim’s scraps out to audition some of my favorites for the scrappy effect. It took my quite a while to pick, as I revisited each piece. Here are my darks and neutrals:
And here is a pile of my little pieces. No matter how small, I could never toss out a single piece, it would be like throwing out a jelly bean box with one still in the bottom!
I was lucky enough to meet Kim a couple years ago, and I was hooked on her techniques and fabric right away! I tried to do a presentation of my quilt with some of my favorite things as props: a picture of my grandmother in her one-room schoolhouse (her school bell is off to the left side):
I can’t wait to see what the new book brings! Who is up for a block exchange?!
